When their relationship is discovered, family members on both sides use violence to tear their relationship apart leading to horrifying circumstances that changes everything.
Ebony and Daniel make plans to run away together after high school and sever all ties with their families. The wait feels long and they continue to be subjected to violence, vengeful acts and family secrets that blow them away. This have to be one of the best books I’ve read in awhile. In order to read and enjoy this book you have to have an open mind and that’s why I enjoyed it. This book focus around Blacks and Hispanics beef and I will say some parts had me angry, sad and happy. I can’t say I can relate to anything that happened in this book but I will say this author had me intrigued from beginning to end and I definitely recommend to readers.

Politics As Usual edition by Karen Williams Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This was a really good book. It was recommended to me and I wasn’t sure what it was about, cause I didn’t read the synopsis. The story touched base on racism in California. This book had my emotions all over the place. This has bee the best read of 2017.
I really can't explain what first attracted me to this book, but I'm glad I ran across it. Ebony and Daniel had a true love. It was pure before it became tainted by other people and their ideas. What happened to them was truly sad, but through it all Ebony still loved Daniel. Her mother was truly a sick woman. She needed help. She, unfortunately, caused irreplaceable harm to her children and grandchildren.
Wow!!!! This book was soooooo good. With the world that we live in now, it is definitely a story that needs to be read. Karen Williams will definitely take your emotions on a ride with this one. Without giving the story away I will say this; If you have Son or Daughter that needs a wake up call about street life, acceptance, and self love, then look no where else but between the cover of Politics As Usual. You will not be disappointed. Great job author.
This is a well written story of two families that loved and respected each other until a tragedy tore them apart. The story touched on many things that are happening in today's world...gang violence...drug use...love and hatred...racism.
There are messages that can be taken from this book....the one l took was 'we as human beings are not born with not an ounce of hate and racism running through our veins....hate and racism is taught...it is up to you to decide if it is something you want learn.
This was my first read from this author and it won’t be my last. She painted a picture so vivid i felt like i was in the middle of the Black and Mexican war. This touched on so many race issues within our communities still going on til this day. It really opened my eyes. I felt so bad for Ebony and Daniel who were just two young people who were in love with each other that just wanted to be with each other but, due to circumstances before them they couldn’t be with one another publicly. Jeremiah made so many mistakes and he finally got his karma. I felt like Jeremiah was Daniel if he choose to go that route when he was younger. Very good storyline. I would recommend this to everyone!
First I just want to say it is rare that I leave a review. I was only a quarter into reading when I knew that not only would I review it. But I was gonna tell my friends to read it so we can discuss it. From the moment I picked up this book and started reading I was instantly pulled in. I just didn't expect the ride I was in for. There were times when I had to place the book down to catch a breath. Yes!! There were scenes in this book that were literally breathtaking. Not from a steamy sex scene or an intimate moment between lovers, but because of grief and heart ache....Pain and rage. The emotions were so raw in this book. It started off as a beautiful, twisted love story that was infiltrated with racism and hate and then transformed over to their next generation as more racism, self hate and confusion. This book was so emotional for me. I felt if this was a personal story that Karen was telling me, as if it was a story she witnessed for herself. That's how beautifully it was written. Like she was speaking her passion on the topic in this but placing it into a beautiful, raw and gritty story. One of the main characters were so dark and ruthless I was anxious to see him meet his fate. And in the same breath I was in love with him because he was a lost soul. Someone who couldn't grasp the idea that he was worthy to be loved. That he was accepted and wanted. That he could soar as high as anyone else could. That he mattered. But he was so lost, confused and didn't have the means to think for himself. He wanted so badly to fit in that he was confusing the people who ”accepted“ him and the people who truly loved him, when the people who loved him were disrespected and disregarded. This book....(Heavy sigh).....THIS BOOK!! Fantastic read!!!
This was a book from a different view than I had read in a long time and I truly loved it. Self hate is the worse form of hate you can experience, because you can never know love til you love yourself
This have to be one of the best books I’ve read in awhile. In order to read and enjoy this book you have to have an open mind and that’s why I enjoyed it.
